WooCommerce and Google Merchant Center: Google for WooCommerce setup and sync
On WooCommerce, the usual way to get products onto Google is the Google for WooCommerce extension. It links your store to Merchant Center and Google Ads and syncs your products. Here’s how it works, from WooCommerce’s documentation for the extension.
Setup: why “Continue” stays greyed out
The final onboarding step’s Continue button stays unavailable until everything required is done:
- Store address complete — in WooCommerce → Settings, fill in street address, city, postcode and country.
- All three accounts connected — a Google account, a Google Merchant Center account and a Google Ads account. Each should show a green checkmark and “Connected”.
If a connection is stuck, reset it: open the extension’s Settings, select Disconnect from all accounts, then go to Marketing → Google for WooCommerce and reconnect all three.
Not supported: Google for WooCommerce doesn’t support Multi-Client Merchant Center accounts (MCA). Use a stand-alone account.
How product sync works
- Products created or updated in WooCommerce are sent to Merchant Center automatically.
- If you delete or trash a synced product, it’s removed from Merchant Center too.
- Synced products expire after 30 days if they aren’t updated. A daily job (3 AM store time) re-syncs products that are about to expire, so they stay active.
- Google takes around 3 days to review your account and product data. If something is rejected, you’re notified in WP Admin.
Exclude a product: on the product edit page, set Channel Visibility to Don’t Sync and Show.
Force a full re-sync: after fixing images or data, open the extension’s hidden connection test page (wp-admin/admin.php?page=connection-test-admin-page) and select Sync All Products with Google Merchant Center.
Ads through the extension
Paid campaigns created from WooCommerce are Performance Max campaigns, which are pay-per-click. Invoices and charges are in your Google Ads account, not in the plugin. Free listings don’t need a campaign — see is Google Merchant Center free?.
