Mercari items not selling or getting no views? Read your numbers first

“Mercari not selling” usually has a specific answer, and Mercari gives you the numbers to find it. Before you cut prices across the board, look at what each listing’s stats are telling you.

Find your numbers

Go to your profile and tap Selling. Under each item you’ll see:

  • Views (eye icon): how many times the item was shown in search and buyer feeds;
  • Clicks (arrow icon): how many times shoppers opened it;
  • Likes (heart icon): how many shoppers liked it.

Views update once a day. A listing you posted today shows no views until the next daily update, so a blank number doesn’t mean zero.

What the pattern means

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to try
Lots of views, few clicksShoppers see it in search but don’t open itA brighter, clearer first photo, or a small price cut
Views dropping over timeNewer listings are pushing it downPromote or a Time-limited sale
Likes but no saleShoppers want it, just not at this priceOffer to Likers
Few views and clicks on a new listingProbably just earlyWait for the next daily update

Mercari’s own tip: your first photo and your price are what shoppers judge from search results, so they’re the fastest things to test.

The three tools, and their rules

PromoteOffer to LikersTime-limited sale
Minimum price drop5%10%10%
Who sees itEveryone (boosted in search) and your likersUp to 50 most recent likersEveryone, plus the Deals section
Permanent?YesNo — 24 hoursNo — 3 days
LimitsOnce every 24 hours per item—Items listed 7+ days

To repeat any of them on the same item, the new price has to be lower than the lowest price that item has ever had — by at least 5% for Promote, 10% for the others. Prices can never go below $1.

Watch out with Smart Pricing. If you use Smart Pricing or Smart Offers and Promote below the minimum price you set, those features stop working, because your price is now under the minimum. Lower the minimum first if you want to keep them.

A sensible order

  1. Fix the first photo and title (brand, item, size) — free and permanent.
  2. If you have likes, send an Offer to Likers — it’s temporary, so you don’t give up your price for good.
  3. If views are falling, Promote with a small 5% drop.
  4. For older listings (7+ days), run a Time-limited sale.

Before each price cut, check what you’ll actually take home with the Mercari fee calculator. If a listing disappeared, see Mercari listing removed; if your account itself has a limit or hold, see Mercari account limited.
