Shopee account frozen or banned? Freeze vs. ban, and how to appeal in time

Shopee uses two words for account suspensions — frozen and banned — and also limits accounts through penalty points. Which one you have decides whether you can appeal at all. This page is based on Shopee’s Seller Education Hub for Malaysia and Singapore; rules differ by market, so check your own market’s hub.

Frozen, banned, or penalty points?

  • Frozen: you can’t make transactions, but you can still log in and send chat messages.
  • Banned: you can’t access the account at all.
  • Penalty-point limits: when restrictions come from accumulated penalty points, Shopee’s Malaysia guidance says you can’t appeal — the account returns to normal when the penalty period ends. In Singapore, a freeze from 15 penalty points lasts 28 days, and can be extended if more points are added.

When an account is limited, Shopee may show a pop-up when you log in. The Malaysia guidance says a restricted account can’t sell, withdraw funds or post on Shopee Video.

Why accounts get frozen or banned

Shopee says it depends on the severity of the violation. Activities it lists include repeated violations on Shopee Live, empty parcel fraud, brushing (fake orders), promotion or voucher abuse and scam behaviour, as well as continuously uploading listings that break product rules — counterfeit or copied listings, for example. Bans and freezes for fraud and severe repeated violations can last indefinitely.

How to appeal

In Malaysia, appeal by chatting with Customer Service through Seller Centre or the Shopee app. In Singapore, Shopee says to contact Customer Service or your Relationship Manager, if you have one. Prepare, before you start:

  1. a valid photo ID;
  2. your business licence or registration, if applicable;
  3. proof of shipping or delivery;
  4. proof of product ownership — supplier invoices, receipts;
  5. a full description of your business: how you run it, other platforms you sell on, the size of your team.

If the limit came from repeatedly uploading listings that violate product rules, Shopee asks you to remove those listings before you appeal.

Don’t wait. Shopee’s Malaysia guidance says a limited account is permanently suspended 30 days after the first notice if no appeal is started in that time, or if the appeal fails. And don’t open a new account to get around it.

Avoid the next one

Shopee’s own tips: keep business details up to date, follow product rules and avoid prohibited items and copied listings, and use vouchers as intended. Before listing, our free Shopee listing checker flags brand-name spam, duplicate listings and contact details in your listing.
