Etsy views vs. visits: what each number counts (and why visits change)

Etsy Stats shows two traffic numbers that sound the same and aren’t. Mixing them up is behind a lot of “my traffic halved overnight” panics. Here’s what each one counts.

The short version

CountsUpdates
VisitsUnique browsing sessions in your shopA few times a day, after bot traffic is filtered out
Views (listing views)Total times your listings were clicked onIn real time

One session can include many listing views, so views are always higher than visits.

An example

Etsy’s own example: a shopper finds one of your listings through search, then looks at five other listings in your shop. That’s one visit and six listing views.

The ratio between them — listing views per visit — tells you roughly how many listings a typical shopper looks at once they’re in your shop. A rising ratio usually means shoppers are browsing more of your shop; it isn’t a bad sign on its own.

Why visits change after you’ve looked

Visit data refreshes a few times a day, and Etsy filters out bot traffic — traffic from search engines and other non-shoppers. It filters again at the end of the day, which can lower the visit count. The time of the last refresh is shown at the top of the Stats page.

So if you saw 120 visits this afternoon and 95 tonight, nothing was taken away from you — the bots were removed. Compare complete days, and complete weeks where possible.

Which number to use

  • For “am I being found?” — visits, and the traffic sources and search terms behind them.
  • For “which listings attract interest?” — listing views per listing.
  • For “is my listing convincing people?” — conversion rate, which Etsy calculates as orders divided by visits. Etsy suggests judging it over longer periods, at least 30 days. See Etsy views but no sales.

Views dropped and visits didn’t?

Then shoppers are still arriving but looking at fewer listings each time — a browsing change, not a search change. If both dropped together, work through Etsy views suddenly dropped.
