Etsy views but no sales? Find where shoppers drop off

If a listing gets views but no orders, search is doing its job: shoppers find it, open it, and leave. Changing tags won’t fix that. The question is what they see on the listing that stops them — and whether you have enough data to know there’s a problem at all.

Check you have a problem

Etsy calculates conversion rate as orders divided by visits, and says sellers can expect a conversion rate of about 1–5%. It also recommends looking at at least 30 days of data before making changes.

So 40 visits and no sale is normal. 800 visits and no sale on one listing is worth fixing. In Shop Stats, sort listings by views and look for ones with many views, some favorites and no orders — those are your candidates.

Also make sure you’re reading the right number: views and visits count different things. See Etsy views vs. visits.

1. Photos

Etsy now lets you add up to 20 photos per listing (up from 10), and its Seller Handbook says using all your photo slots may increase your conversion rate, because each one answers a question the shopper can’t ask in person: size in the hand, the back, the clasp, the texture, the packaging.

Look at your listing on a phone. If the first three photos don’t show what the item is, how big it is and what it looks like in use, start there. For sizes and thumbnail crops, see Etsy listing photo size.

2. Price and shipping

Etsy names pricing as one of the factors behind conversion, and its advertising guidance says that when listings get lots of views and clicks but no sales, something may be stopping shoppers — such as a high shipping price.

Compare the total price (item plus shipping) with similar listings that are selling. A low item price with expensive shipping often loses at checkout.

3. Description and options

Etsy recommends keeping descriptions short but informative, with essentials such as sizes, dimensions, colors or ordering directions at the top. Shoppers who can’t quickly find “will this fit / what exactly do I get / when will it arrive” leave rather than message.

4. Reviews and trust

Etsy lists the number of reviews and the average rating among the factors that inform conversion. New shops can’t fix that overnight, but they can remove other doubts: clear shipping times, a return policy (even “No returns” is stated), real photos and an About section. See Etsy reviews for sellers for how reviews work.

5. Are the views the right views?

If a listing ranks for a search that’s only loosely related — “gift” instead of “personalized leather dog collar” — it gets views from people who never wanted it. Tighten the title and tags to what the item actually is. Fewer, better-matched views beat many accidental ones.

Change one thing per listing at a time — photos this week, price next — and compare at least two to four weeks. Otherwise you can’t tell what worked.
