Shopify shipping rates not showing at checkout: how to fix it

A customer reaches checkout and sees “Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address” — or no shipping options at all. Shopify says this usually means the checkout details don’t match any of your rate conditions. Work through this checklist from Shopify’s troubleshooting guide.

1. The product

In Products, open the item:

  • It must be set as a physical product. Digital products and services don’t return shipping rates.
  • It needs a shipping weight, in the right unit (lb, oz or kg). Without weight, rates don’t calculate correctly.
  • It needs stock at a fulfilling location — unless Continue selling when out of stock is on.

2. Locations

In Settings → Locations:

  • each location must be active with a valid address;
  • the option to fulfill online orders from that location must be on.

App locations have no physical address, so carrier-calculated rates can’t use them. If a dropshipping app’s products show out of stock, the app location may have no rates: open the shipping profile, find it under Not shipping from this location, click Add rates, and save.

3. Markets and zones

  • The customer’s country must belong to a market, and in that market’s shipping settings, the country must have rates.
  • In Settings → Shipping and delivery, check that the product is in the right shipping profile, and that the profile has a zone covering the customer’s address with at least one rate.

4. Rate conditions

  • Weight-based rates: cart weight includes the default package weight. Check for gaps between tiers and rounding near tier edges — set package weight to 0 if you want rates to use product weight only.
  • Price-based rates: Shopify compares the cart total after discounts and before tax. A discount code can drop a cart out of a free-shipping tier. Check the rate currency matches your store currency.
  • Several profiles in one cart: rates are combined only when their names match exactly, including capitals.

5. Carrier-calculated rates

  • Product weights and dimensions and both addresses must be valid.
  • The default package must be within the carrier service’s limits. If it’s a carrier-branded box, only that carrier returns rates.
  • For third-party app rates, check the feature is on for your store and the address is in a zone where the app is active — then contact the app developer.

6. Test properly

Abandoned checkouts keep the rates they had when created. After changing settings, test with a new checkout, not an old link. And make sure your changes actually saved.

Shipping problems at checkout are one common reason for traffic without sales — see Shopify traffic but no sales.
