Shopify Stocky is gone: what replaces it in Shopify
Shopify’s help center says it plainly: “The Stocky app will no longer be available after August 31st, 2026.” Shopify asks merchants to move to its built-in inventory management features in the Shopify admin and Shopify POS. Here’s where each Stocky job lives now.
Stocky job → where it is now
| Stocky did | Use now | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase orders | Purchase orders | Shopify admin → Products → Purchase orders |
| Suppliers | Suppliers (contact details, payment terms, currency) | Inside purchase orders |
| Receiving stock | Inventory transfer from the purchase order | Admin or Shopify POS |
| Stocktakes | Stock counts or Quick count | Planned in admin, counted in POS |
| Stock transfers between locations | Inventory transfers | Created in admin; fulfilled and received in admin or POS |
Purchase orders
In the Shopify admin, go to Products → Purchase orders → Create purchase order, then:
- Choose a supplier, or click Create new supplier.
- Optionally pick the destination location (you can add it later, before you mark the order as ordered).
- Add products by searching, browsing, importing a CSV, or scanning barcodes.
- Enter the quantity for each product, and optionally the supplier SKU, cost and tax percentage.
- Optionally adjust Payment terms and Supplier currency, add a reference number or a note to the supplier, and tags.
- Check the Cost summary and click Save as draft.
When the supplier confirms, mark it Ordered. To send it to them, open the order and use More actions → Export PDF.
CSV import: variants can be matched by SKU, barcode or both. Rows for variants already on the order fail to import.
Receiving stock
Once a purchase order is Ordered, create an inventory transfer from it. Shopify says the transfer lets you track the shipment, receive the inventory and add cost adjustments. You can receive in the Shopify admin or in Shopify POS.
Stocktakes
Shopify has two ways to count:
- Stock counts — created in the Shopify admin and assigned to a location; staff count the listed items in the POS app and submit the results for review. Requires Shopify POS Pro.
- Quick count — staff scan or search for products on a POS device and enter quantities. When the session is submitted, the quantity adjusts to match what was counted. Up to 1,000 variants per session.
Shopify suggests completing pending orders and transfers before you count, and checking the Inventory adjustment changes report afterwards — recounting any variant that’s off by more than 5%. A sale during counting can cause a small discrepancy.
Transfers between locations
Shopify notes that some workflows, such as creating inventory transfers, require the Shopify admin. Staff can then fulfil and receive transfers in Shopify POS.
What Shopify’s help pages don’t cover
Stocky also did demand forecasting and reporting. Shopify’s purchase order and inventory help pages don’t describe a built-in replacement for forecasting or reorder suggestions. If you relied on those, compare inventory planning apps in the Shopify App Store, and check what each one can import before you choose.
About old data: Shopify’s Stocky page warns that data from an uninstalled Stocky app might not be retrievable if you reinstall it, and says to contact Shopify Support as soon as possible if you uninstalled it and need it back. It doesn’t describe an export process — so if you still have access to any Stocky records, ask Support before removing anything.
