Etsy funds on hold or not available for deposit? The usual reasons and what to do
“My balance shows money but none of it is available to deposit” is one of the most stressful things to see in Etsy’s Payment account. There are several separate reasons, and the page usually tells you which one applies — if you know where to look.
First, which balance are you reading?
Etsy deposits come from your current balance, not your total balance. Money from recent sales may be counted in the total before it’s available. And if you have an amount due or a negative balance, there won’t be funds available for deposit until it’s covered.
Open Shop Manager → Finances → Payment account and look for notices at the top of the page.
Reason 1: a payment account reserve
Etsy can hold a percentage of sales from physical items in a reserve, on a rolling basis. The Payment account page shows whether a reserve applies to you, the percentage, and how long funds are held.
What helps: add tracking to every order. Etsy says that once it confirms a package is in transit, the reserved funds for that order can become available for deposit. Shipping on time and resolving buyer issues quickly also build the kind of history reserves are based on.
Reason 2: you just changed your bank account
For security, Etsy holds funds for a short period after bank details are updated and verified. If the timing matches a recent change, this is the likely cause — and it resolves on its own.
Reason 3: a missing or invalid card
If the card on file for your account has expired or is invalid, you can’t receive deposits. Update it in your Payment account settings.
Reason 4: unfinished requirements
If you have incomplete or overdue requirements — identity, tax or bank verification — your deposits may be restricted. Look for a banner in Shop Manager or an email from Etsy, finish the step, and deposits resume — see Etsy identity verification. If the shop itself is suspended, see Etsy shop suspended.
Reason 5: it’s just the normal schedule
Not every delay is a hold. Newer shops can wait longer before sale funds are eligible for deposit than established shops. Check the deposit schedule shown in your Payment account before assuming something is wrong.
Never send money or account details to anyone who messages you claiming to “release” your Etsy funds. Etsy shows holds and reserves in your Payment account and contacts you through Etsy and your registered email.
