Etsy Star Seller badge removed? Why it happens and how to get it back

Losing the Star Seller badge feels like a penalty, but it’s usually a monthly re-check that your numbers didn’t pass — or an admin issue you can fix in minutes. Here’s how it works.

How Star Seller is evaluated

Etsy reviews Star Seller eligibility on the 1st of every month, based on your customer service stats over the past three months. The criteria cover how quickly you reply to buyers’ first messages, shipping on time with tracking, and buyer reviews, plus a minimum amount of sales activity in the period. The exact thresholds are shown on the Star Seller section of your Shop Manager dashboard — check them there, since Etsy has changed them over time.

Why a badge gets removed

Etsy’s help lists these reasons:

  • you no longer meet the criteria at the monthly review;
  • you have an overdue bill;
  • your account has limited privileges;
  • a violation of Etsy’s Terms of Use or Seller Policy;
  • suspected attempts to inflate your Star Seller stats.

How to get it back

  • Overdue bill: paying the bill may restore the badge.
  • Didn’t meet the criteria: look at which metric fell short in your dashboard and fix that before the next monthly review. Message response is a frequent one, so make a habit of replying to every buyer’s first message promptly.
  • Removed for a set period: if the badge was removed for 90 days, you have to wait for the next review after that period ends.
  • Policy or account issues: resolve the underlying issue first — check your email and Shop Manager for notices.

Does it affect search?

Not directly. Etsy says the Star Seller badge doesn’t directly affect the order of search results, and not having it doesn’t hurt your search visibility. But the same things it measures — message responses, reviews, on-time shipping — feed into Etsy’s customer service ranking factor, and the badge is a trust signal that can help shoppers choose you. If your views dropped at the same time, see Etsy views suddenly dropped.

Don’t try to game the stats — for example, asking buyers to message you just to raise your response rate. Etsy lists suspected stat inflation as a reason to remove the badge.
