Facebook Marketplace listing stuck “in review”? Why, and what to do

Most Marketplace listings go live without anyone looking at them. When yours shows in review instead, something about it made Meta take a closer look. Here’s what that means and how to get through it.

Why a listing goes into review

Meta’s help says it reviews listings when its systems detect a potential violation or when someone reports them. Listings that don’t follow the Commerce Policies or Community Standards are rejected.

So “in review” isn’t a punishment — but it is a hint. Something in the title, description, photos or category looked like it might break a rule.

How long does review take?

Meta doesn’t publish a time frame for Marketplace listing reviews. Many finish quickly; some take longer. While you wait:

  • Don’t post the same item again. A second copy doesn’t skip the queue, and duplicate listings look like spam.
  • Don’t keep editing it. Each change gives the systems something new to check.

Where to see the result

Go to your profile, open the menu, then Profile status → Marketplace (under Extra features) → Your listings. Listings with a problem appear under Needs attention; open one and click See details for the rule involved.

What commonly triggers review

Check your listing against the things the Commerce Policies don’t allow or restrict:

  • Prohibited items — animals, alcohol, tobacco, medical and healthcare items including supplements, weapons and ammunition, digital products and accounts, used cosmetics.
  • Counterfeit-sounding words — “replica”, “dupe”, “inspired by”, “AAA quality”, even if your item is genuine or unbranded.
  • Restricted items — event tickets and gift cards (approved sellers only).
  • Services or wanted posts — Marketplace listings must be an item you have for sale.
  • Words that often mean a prohibited item — for example “puppy”, “vape” or “CBD” in a listing for a dog bed or a phone case. Make it obvious what you’re actually selling.

Our free Marketplace listing checker scans your title and description for these words and asks about the category.

If it gets rejected

If you believe it’s a mistake, open the listing from Needs attention and click Request review. Meta says that if it made a mistake, it restores the listing. You may not see that option if:

  • it’s been more than 180 days since the rejection;
  • you’ve already requested a review for it;
  • a review isn’t available for the rule involved.

If the item really isn’t allowed, don’t reword it and post again — remove it. Repeated violations can put your Marketplace access at risk. See Marketplace access restricted.
