Etsy listing expired? Why it vanished from search and how to renew it

If a listing was getting views and suddenly gets none, check whether it has expired before you touch the title or tags. An expired listing is not ranked low — it is not in search at all, and no amount of SEO will bring it back until it is renewed.

How long an Etsy listing lasts

Every Etsy listing is published for four months for a $0.20 USD listing fee. When the four months are up, one of two things happens:

  • Auto-renew is on: Etsy renews the listing for another four months and charges another $0.20. Nothing changes in search.
  • Auto-renew is off: the listing expires. It disappears from search and from your shop until you renew it manually.

A listing can also leave search before the four months are up if its quantity reaches zero — it then shows as sold out.

How to find and renew expired listings

  1. Open Shop Manager → Listings.
  2. Change the status filter from Active to Expired.
  3. Tick the listings you want back and choose Renew. Each one costs $0.20 USD.

A renewed listing gets a new four-month period but keeps its web address, views and favorites.

After renewing, give search some time to pick the listing up again, and resist the urge to rewrite the title on the same day — if views come back, you want to know it was the renewal that did it.

Don’t renew every expired listing out of habit. If a listing never sold in its first four months, renewing it as-is just buys four more quiet months. Fix the photos, price or title first, or let it go.

Turning auto-renew on

Auto-renew is set per listing, and new listings start out set to renew automatically — so an expired listing usually means it was switched to manual at some point. In the listing editor, find the renewal options and choose Automatic. It’s worth keeping on for listings that sell steadily; for slow movers, manual renewal gives you a natural moment to decide whether the listing still deserves a slot.

Keep in mind that a listing with several items in stock is also renewed — and charged $0.20 — each time one of them sells, so every sale effectively keeps it live for another four months.

Still not showing after renewing?

If the listing is active again but still can’t be found, the problem is something else: a policy notice, very recent edits, wasted tags or a vague category. The free Etsy visibility diagnostic checks all of those, in order of severity.
