Shopify product not showing in a collection? Check these in order
You added a product, it should be in the collection — and it isn’t. Shopify collections follow precise rules, and the product usually fails one of them. Work through these in order.
1. Is the product live on the Online Store?
In Products, open the product and check:
- its status is Active (not Draft or Archived);
- it’s available on the Online Store sales channel.
Shopify notes that a collection’s availability and a product’s availability are separate: making a collection visible doesn’t make the products in it visible, and the reverse. Each product has to be available on the channel itself.
2. Is the collection itself visible?
Check the collection is available on the Online Store too, and that it’s actually linked from your navigation menu if that’s how shoppers reach it.
3. Manual or automated?
Manual collection: the product has to be added to it explicitly. Open the collection and add it.
Automated collection: the product has to meet the collection’s conditions. Open the collection and read them carefully:
- “All conditions” vs “Any condition.” With all conditions, a product has to match every one to be included.
- Tags. The product’s tag must match the condition’s tag. Shopify notes that special characters in tags are ignored or treated as the same, so
red-newmatchesred_new— check you’re not relying on a difference that isn’t one. - Compare-at price. If any variant has an empty compare-at price, the product matches the “is not set” condition — easy to miss on products with several variants.
- Inventory. If the collection only includes products in stock, a sold-out product drops out until it’s restocked.
4. Force the collection to update
If the product clearly meets the conditions but still doesn’t appear, Shopify suggests forcing the product to update: make a small change to it (for example add a space to the description), save, change it back, and save again. Then refresh the collection.
Theme or app filters can hide products on the storefront even when the collection includes them. If the product shows in the collection in your admin but not on the site, preview the collection with your theme’s filters cleared before changing conditions.
Not showing on Google either?
