Why do my eBay listings keep relisting? Good ’Til Cancelled renewals and fees

If you keep seeing the same eBay listing “relist” every month — and an insertion fee or a free-listing slot used each time — it’s almost always the Good ’Til Cancelled duration doing exactly what it’s designed to do.

How Good ’Til Cancelled works

Fixed-price listings on eBay run as Good ’Til Cancelled (GTC). eBay says a GTC listing renews automatically every month on the same day until it sells or you end it. Its example: list on May 1 and it renews on June 1. Listings created on the 29th–31st are adjusted in shorter months.

What each renewal costs

eBay charges the insertion fee, plus any optional listing upgrades, when you first list and each time the listing renews. Most sellers get a monthly allowance of zero-insertion-fee listings, and renewals count toward it — so a large catalog of slow-moving GTC listings can use up the free allowance, after which renewals are charged.

Exact fees and allowances depend on your account and Store subscription; check eBay’s Selling fees page and your invoice.

How to stop a listing from renewing

  • End the listing from Seller Hub → Listings when you no longer want it live.
  • Review slow movers monthly. A renewal date is a good moment to decide: lower the price, improve photos and item specifics, or end it.

eBay can also remove or hide listings that have been active a year or more without a sale — another reason to review old GTC listings rather than let them roll over forever. See eBay listing removed.

“I didn’t relist it — eBay did”

Besides GTC renewals, sellers also report items being relisted automatically after an auction ends unsold (when automatic relisting was selected) or after an order is cancelled. If a listing reappeared unexpectedly, check the listing’s activity in Seller Hub and your listing settings. Fees for automatic relisting depend on eBay’s current terms — check the fee details on the relisted item.

Ending a GTC listing and creating a brand-new copy to “refresh” it loses its watchers and sales history, and creating duplicates of the same item breaks eBay’s duplicate listing policy. Improve the existing listing instead.

Renewals can use up your free monthly listings — and after that, cost an insertion fee. See eBay listing fees.
