eBay listing fees: 250 free listings a month, then $0.35 each
For most casual sellers, listing on eBay is free. The catch is the monthly allowance: once you use it up, every new listing costs money — whether or not it sells. Here’s how it works, from eBay’s Seller Center.
The basic rule
- Every month you get 250 free listings — called zero insertion fee listings — usable for auction or fixed-price items.
- After those 250, each additional listing costs $0.35 in most categories.
- Category exclusions apply — some categories have different insertion fees or don’t qualify for free listings.
The insertion fee is separate from the final value fee you pay when an item sells. See the eBay fee calculator for what a sale costs you.
Store subscriptions get more free listings
eBay Store subscribers get a bigger monthly allowance:
| Store | Free fixed-price listings | Free auction listings (select categories) |
|---|---|---|
| No Store / Starter | Up to 250 in total | — |
| Basic | Up to 1,000 | Up to 250 |
| Premium | Up to 10,000 | Up to 500 |
| Anchor | Up to 25,000 | Up to 1,000 |
| Enterprise | Up to 100,000 | Up to 2,500 |
Basic and higher Stores also get an extra allocation of free fixed-price listings in select categories such as trading cards, collectibles, books, music, movies, video games, stamps and crafts. If you regularly list more than 250 items a month, eBay suggests a Store subscription.
Categories that don’t qualify
Zero insertion fee listings don’t apply in some categories, including Real Estate, select Motors categories (cars and trucks, boats, motorcycles, other vehicles and trailers, powersports) and select Business & Industrial categories such as heavy equipment.
What still costs extra
Free listings cover the insertion fee only. You still pay for optional upgrades and services if you use them, such as:
- adding a subtitle;
- listing in two categories;
- shipping labels bought through eBay.
Keep an eye on renewals
Good ’Til Cancelled listings renew automatically, and they also count toward your monthly limits — see eBay selling limits. Ending listings that never sell keeps your allowance for items that do — see why eBay listings keep relisting.
Shipping is the other cost to get right before you list — see eBay shipping calculator.
