How to become a TikTok Shop seller (US): requirements and documents
Registering a TikTok Shop is quick if your documents are right — and most delays come from documents that are cropped, expired or don’t match what you typed. Here’s what TikTok Shop’s US Seller Center asks for.
Who can register
- You must be at least 18.
- You must live in the US.
- You need a US passport, US driver’s license or state ID (a permanent resident card is also accepted for identity verification).
- Your phone number and email can’t already be used by another shop.
Individual or business?
- Individual seller: you register with your own details. If you’re a sole proprietor without an EIN, register as an Individual Seller.
- Sole proprietorship with an EIN, corporation or partnership: the business needs a primary business address in the US. You provide the legal business name, registered business address, EIN, and details of the business’s ultimate beneficial owners. Proof of business is an IRS-issued document (such as an EIN confirmation notice) showing the legal business name, address, EIN and date. A screenshot of the IRS website, an SS-4 application, tax returns or e-file confirmations aren’t accepted.
Document rules
Every document must be:
- valid and not expired;
- a full, uncropped image, with the photo and details clear;
- matching the information you type in during registration — double-check name and date of birth;
- under 10 MB, in JPG, PNG, JPEG or PDF.
If you’re asked for proof of address, use a utility bill (gas, water, electricity, phone or internet), a bank or credit card statement, or an insurance policy.
Bank account: the name must match
Before you can be paid, you link and verify a bank account. TikTok Shop says the account holder’s name must match exactly the individual or business name you gave at onboarding — a mismatch stops the account from linking. Use a personal account as an individual or sole proprietor, and a business account for a corporation.
Tax documents and the $2,000 threshold
You can start listing and selling without tax documents, but only until you earn $2,000. To keep selling and get paid after that, you must submit your tax information (a W-9).
After approval
New shops start in a probation period with daily order limits — see TikTok Shop new shop probation. Then check your listings against the rules: product image requirements and title length. For what each sale leaves you, use the TikTok Shop fee calculator.
