Walmart Buy Box: how it’s won and why your Add to cart button disappeared
On Walmart.com, several sellers can offer the same item on one product page — but only one offer wins the Buy Box, the spot above the Add to cart button where most purchases happen. Here’s how Walmart picks it.
How the winner is chosen
Walmart says the winner is generally the offer with the best value for the customer, based on their location. It looks at:
- your price;
- your shipping fee;
- your delivery speed;
- your seller performance metrics — see Walmart Seller Performance Standards;
- the customer’s experience.
Because location matters, you can win the Buy Box for some shoppers and not others.
Why your Add to cart button disappeared
If your offer isn’t eligible to win the Buy Box — for example, it’s priced substantially above prices currently or recently offered on Walmart.com or competing sites — Walmart removes the Add to cart button, price and shipping details from the item page. Customers can still buy through more seller options.
If the price is high enough, Walmart may unpublish the item instead — see Walmart pricing rules and the Walmart unpublished item checker.
Tools to track and win it
- Pricing Insights dashboard: your Buy Box win rate overall or by item, your price vs the winner’s, and history over time.
- Buy Box report: every product that competed for the Buy Box, by SKU, and whether you won.
- Repricer: a Buy Box strategy that adjusts your price automatically, within your minimum and maximum.
Faster, cheaper delivery also helps — see Walmart shipping requirements and WFS.
Reading your Pricing Insights numbers
- Buy Box win rate — the share of page views where your offer won the Buy Box over the last 30 days. 60% means you were the winner on 60% of the views your items got.
- Price competitiveness score — how your original price (without Walmart-funded incentives) compares with the same products on external sites. An offer counts as competitive if it’s at or below the comparable external price. The score is weighted by customer impressions, so high-traffic items move it most. It also tracks your progress toward the Pro Seller benchmark.
