Shopify payment fees by plan (US)

With Shopify Payments, you pay a card rate on each order — lower on bigger plans. With a third-party provider (such as PayPal or Stripe), Shopify adds its own transaction fee on top of that provider’s fee. Example on Basic: a $50 online order costs 2.9% × $50 + $0.30 = $1.75.

Common questions

Does Shopify charge a fee if I use PayPal or Stripe?

Yes. With a third-party payment provider, Shopify charges its own transaction fee — 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, 0.2% on Plus — on top of the provider’s fees.

Is it worth upgrading my plan for the lower rate?

Compare the monthly price difference with the fee savings on your monthly sales. Run your typical order on two plans here and multiply by your monthly order count.

Are the card fees charged on tax and shipping?

Card fees apply to the amount charged to the customer, which includes shipping and any tax you collect.

Shopify abandoned checkout emails not sending? The cases Shopify skips

Shopify deliberately skips abandoned checkout emails in several cases — payment errors, unsupported shipping addresses, phone-only checkouts, free orders and more. How to tell which applies.

Shopify chargeback: how to respond and what evidence to send

With Shopify Payments, a chargeback takes the disputed amount and a fee (US$15 in the US) straight away. You usually have 7–21 days to respond, and the bank can take up to 75 days to decide. What evidence to send for each dispute reason, and inquiries vs chargebacks.

Shopify discount code not working at checkout? Read the error, then check these

Each Shopify discount error points to a different cause: an inactive or expired code, products that don’t qualify, codes that can’t be combined, a used-up code, or an app hiding the field.

Shopify domain not working or SSL unavailable: how to fix it

Most Shopify custom domain problems come from DNS: the A record must be 23.227.38.65, the www CNAME shops.myshopify.com., with only one A and one AAAA record. Plus Cloudflare proxy, CAA records, DNSSEC, and why SSL can take up to 48 hours.

How to hide a product on Shopify: Unlisted, seo.hidden, or noindex

Shopify gives you several ways to hide a product: Unlisted status keeps it reachable only by direct link and out of search, collections and the sitemap; the seo.hidden metafield hides it from search engines and store search; a noindex tag hides it from Google only.

Shopify high-risk order: what fraud analysis means and what to do

Shopify rates the risk of a fraud chargeback as low, medium or high and recommends fulfilling, confirming with the customer, or cancelling. The fraud indicators (AVS, CVV, location, cards tried), where to find them, and how to handle a high-risk order before you ship.

Shopify product image size: what Shopify recommends

Shopify says 2048 × 2048 pixels usually displays best for square product images. Images can be up to 5000 × 5000 pixels (25 megapixels) and must be smaller than 20 MB. Plus why your collection grid looks uneven.

Shopify not charging sales tax at checkout? What to check

Shopify only collects US sales tax in states where you’ve added a tax registration. If tax isn’t showing at checkout, check your registrations, the product’s tax and physical settings, its category, and customer exemptions.

Shopify store not showing on Google? Check these first

The most common reason a Shopify store doesn’t appear on Google is private mode, which hides the store from search engines. How to check, how to verify your domain and submit your sitemap in Google Search Console, and what to expect afterwards.

How to pause your Shopify store (Pause and Build)

Shopify’s Pause and Build plan stops checkout on every sales channel at a reduced fee while you keep admin access. Who can use it, what stops and what keeps running (including app charges), why orders can still come in until your billing cycle ends, and how to unpause.

Shopify Payments account on hold or reserve: why, and how to get paid

A Shopify Payments hold stops your payouts until it’s resolved; a reserve keeps back part (or all) of your sales for a set period, such as 10% for 120 days. Common reasons, where to see a reserve in Finance → Payouts, how to resolve a hold, and how to appeal a reserve.

When does Shopify pay you? Shopify Payments payout timing

Shopify Payments settles most charges in 2–3 business days (US, Canada, UK, EU: 3; Australia: 2), then your bank takes 1–3 business days. Daily, weekly or monthly schedules, how weekends work, and the common reasons a payout is late or missing.

Shopify product and variant limits: 2,048 variants, 3 options, 250 images

Shopify plans let you sell unlimited products, but each product can have up to 2,048 variants, three options and 250 media items. Large stores also hit a daily variant upload limit. What the limits are and how to get around them.

Shopify product not showing in a collection? Check these in order

A product missing from a Shopify collection is usually inactive, not available to the Online Store, failing an automated condition, or out of stock. How to check each and force a refresh.

Shopify shipping rates not showing at checkout: how to fix it

“Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address” usually means the checkout doesn’t match any of your Shopify shipping rate conditions. Check product weight and “physical product”, locations, markets, shipping zones, weight and price tiers, carrier settings — and test with a new checkout.

Shopify product says sold out? Inventory tracking, locations and overselling

Shopify marks a product out of stock when inventory is tracked and the quantity is zero or below — often at the location that fulfills online orders. How to fix the quantity, when to turn off tracking, and how “Continue selling when out of stock” works.
