Transaction fee — 6.5%

Of the order total: item price plus shipping and gift wrap.

Payment processing

Depends on your bank account’s country — 3% + $0.25 in the US. It also applies to sales tax.

Offsite Ads — 15% or 12%

Only on orders from an Offsite Ad click; capped at $100 per order.

Regulatory operating fee

A percentage charged to sellers in some countries.

Currency conversion — 2.5%

If your listing currency differs from your payment account currency. Not included here.

Some new shops pay a one-time, non-refundable setup fee when opening; the amount depends on your location and is shown during setup. Not per order, so not included here.

Common questions

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and payment processing applies to the whole sale. Pricing shipping at cost means paying fees on it.

Why is the listing fee per item?

A listing with several items in stock renews for $0.20 each time one sells, so each item effectively costs a $0.20 listing fee.

Is this exactly what Etsy will charge?

It’s an estimate from Etsy’s published fees. Your Payment account shows the exact fees for each order, and some countries add VAT or other taxes to fees.

Official references

Payment processing rates are preset only for countries whose rates we could confirm on Etsy’s own pages. For any other country, choose “Other” and enter the rate from your Payment account.

Etsy 1099-K: who gets one, how to download it, and why the total looks high

Etsy sends a 1099-K when your Etsy Payments sales reach $20,000 and 200 sales in a year, though some states set lower thresholds. Where to download it, why it shows gross sales before fees, and what to do if you didn’t get one.

Etsy Ads not spending or getting views? How the budget and auction really work

Etsy Ads only charge for clicks, from a $1 minimum daily budget, and listings must qualify in search before they can win an ad slot. What clicks cost, why your budget goes unspent, why views stay low, and what to fix first.

Etsy categories and attributes: how to pick them so buyers can find you

On Etsy, the category you choose decides which attributes you can add, and attributes decide whether your listing shows up when buyers filter search. How to choose the most specific category and fill attributes well.

Why does Etsy auto-renew sold listings? The $0.20 renewal fees explained

Etsy charges $0.20 to renew a listing when it expires and when a multi-quantity listing sells. When each fee applies, how to switch renewal off, and when keeping it on is worth it.

How to cancel an Etsy order as a seller (and what happens to your fees)

Only the seller can cancel an Etsy order. Cancelling gives the buyer a full refund and Etsy credits back your listing and transaction fees. The steps, the difference between refunding and cancelling, and the 180-day limit.

How to close your Etsy shop (or account) — and reopen it later

Closing your Etsy shop turns your account buyer-only; closing your account and permanently deleting it are separate steps. What you must settle first (balance, open cases, orders), why the Close button can be missing, and how to reopen.

Selling digital downloads on Etsy: file limits, delivery and listing tips

An Etsy instant-download listing can hold up to five files of up to 20MB each, and buyers download them from their Purchases page. File rules, what happens after a sale, and how to choose categories and photos for digital products.

Etsy funds on hold or not available for deposit? The usual reasons and what to do

Money from Etsy sales can be held by a payment account reserve, a negative balance, a recent bank change, a missing card or unfinished requirements. How to tell which applies to you.

Etsy seller identity verification: how it works and why it fails

Etsy verifies new sellers through Persona with a government-issued photo ID and a live selfie. The ID must be current and match the name on your payout bank account. What to prepare, express vs manual review, and what to do if it fails.

Etsy listing removed for trademark or copyright? What an IP notice means and your options

When a rights owner reports your listing, Etsy removes it and sends an IP notice. Copyright and trademark reports are handled differently — when a counter notice is possible, and when it isn’t.

Etsy listing photo size: pixels, ratio and thumbnail crops

Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 pixels wide and tall, and your first photo needs at least 635 pixels or it can rank lower. Ratio, thumbnail crops, file size and why photos look blurry.

Etsy return policy for sellers: “no returns”, cases, and why an order got refunded

On Etsy each seller sets their own return policy, and “no returns” is allowed. But a no-returns policy doesn’t stop a buyer’s case when an item doesn’t arrive or isn’t as described. How it works, and why an order shows as refunded.

Etsy reviews for sellers: when buyers can review, and getting a review removed

Etsy only removes reviews that break its policies — not just because they’re negative. When buyers can leave a review (from the estimated delivery date, for 100 days), how to report or respond to one, and why responding locks the review.

Etsy sales tax: what Etsy collects for you, and what’s left to you

Etsy calculates, collects and remits US sales tax on qualifying orders for sellers anywhere in the world. What “sales tax paid by buyer” means, when your own tax settings still apply, and what you may still have to file.

An Etsy shop name must be 4 to 20 characters with no spaces or special characters, not already taken, and not infringe a trademark. How to check if a name is available, tips for choosing one, and how many times you can change it.

Etsy shop not showing up on Google? What you can and can’t control

Google decides when to index Etsy shop and listing pages, and new shops can take a while. How to check, what Etsy lets you control (titles and descriptions), and what’s out of your hands.

Usually you missed a criterion at Etsy’s monthly re-check (on the 1st, using the last three months), or have an overdue bill or account issue. How to get it back.

Etsy title character limit: 140 allowed, but shorter titles work better

Etsy titles can be up to 140 characters, but Etsy recommends short, clear titles — under 15 words, ideally around 40 characters — because shoppers and Google only see the start.

Etsy vacation mode: message examples, and how to get your listings back

Vacation mode hides every listing from search until you turn it off. Copy-ready announcement and auto-reply examples, what happens to open orders, how long listings take to return, and what to do if Etsy turned it on.

Etsy listing deactivated or removed? Find the reason, then fix or appeal

An inactive Etsy listing isn’t always a removal. How to tell expired from deactivated from removed, where Etsy shows the reason, and when an appeal is possible.

Etsy listing expired? Why it vanished from search and how to renew it

Etsy listings expire after four months and drop out of search completely. Here’s how to find expired listings, renew them, and set auto-renew so it doesn’t happen again.

Etsy listing getting no views? Why it shows 0 and what to fix

A new Etsy listing or shop with zero views usually has one of a few causes: it isn’t live, it’s missing basics Etsy checks, or its keywords don’t match real searches.

Most Etsy suspensions come from an unpaid bill, a missing taxpayer ID or unfinished verification and lift once fixed. How to find the reason, fix it, or appeal a permanent one.

Etsy views but no sales? Find where shoppers drop off

Lots of Etsy views and no orders is a conversion problem, not a search problem. Check your numbers, then photos, price and shipping, description and reviews.

Etsy views suddenly dropped? What to check before you change anything

Etsy views tanked overnight? Rule out expired listings, vacation mode, notices and recent edits first, then check seasonality, shipping price and customer service.

Etsy views vs. visits: what each number counts (and why visits change)

Etsy tags: how to use all 13 (and why some won’t save)

Each Etsy listing gets 13 tags of up to 20 characters. How to fill them with phrases shoppers actually search, and the mistakes that quietly waste slots.
